The Philadelphia Alliance to Restore School Librarians (PARSL), the Pennsylvania School Librarians Association (PSLA), and EveryLibrary are organizing a silent “read-in” to advocate for the restoration of certified school librarians in all School District of Philadelphia schools to support improved student literacy (including digital media literacy) and to encourage students to discover the joy of reading.

WHEN: Friday, June 27 from 1:00 to 1:45 pm (rain or shine)
WHERE: On the steps in front of the School District of Philadelphia Administration Building, 440 N. Broad St, Philadelphia
WHAT TO BRING: A book to read, water, umbrella & something dry to sit on (if raining)
DETAILS: This is a public event but not a protest. Through a silent demonstration, our organizations are urging school decision makers to prioritize reading and literacy by reestablishing school libraries with professional librarians in all district-operated schools. Please dress appropriately for the weather. T-Shirts encouraging reading, school librarians, and school libraries are welcomed. There will be media coverage, and photographs and videos will be taken.
