Join PARSL in Celebrating School Library Month

April 1st - 30th

Please participate in PARSL School Library Month activities. Let’s show our School District that there is widespread support for all district-operated schools in Philadelphia to provide well-stocked school libraries with instructional school librarians in every school. Philly kids deserve it!

Activity #1 - Sign the Petition

Go to https://www.restorephillylibrarians.org/high_priority_petition and sign the “Make Restoring School Librarians a High Priority in Philadelphia” petition.

Activity #2 – Help us Reach 500 PARSL Members

PARSL has almost 350 members but we want to have 500 by the end of April. Numbers speak loudly and we need the SDP School Board to understand that there is a ground swell of concern that Philly students lack school libraries and librarians. Please sign up at https://www.restorephillylibrarians.org/volunteer and invite your family, friends, and co-workers to join. Members receive updates on PARSL activities and learn ways to be actively involved.

Activity #3 – Send Written Testimony to the SDP School Board

Tell the SDP Board members why it is so important for the district to provide this essential component of public education– a School Library with a trained School Librarian to guide and teach our students in every school.

Your comments can be any length. Email to [email protected]. Put the words “Board Comments” in the subject line. Include your name and home address in the email.

If you’d rather testify during a Board meeting via Zoom or in person, details can be found at https://www.restorephillylibrarians.org/get_the_fact_sheet

Activity # 4 - Social Media Storm

If you engage in social media platforms, use PARSL’s list of tweets, FaceBook messages, images, and hashtags which can be found here.

Activity #5 – Send us a Testimonial

PARSL is collecting testimonials of students, teachers, parents and city residents about why the District should be providing school libraries. Tell us your experiences with or without libraries and librarians. What difference has it made or can it make in the lives of our school kids?  Email your comments to [email protected].
